Wound Healing - 5 Stages of Grief, 2012, engraved and cold worked glass, steel

Wound Healing – 5 Stages of Grief, 2012, engraved and cold worked glass, steel

This work is a wall hanging piece made out of 5 glass panels, which are carved and cold worked with a backing out of blackened steel. The idea behind this work is to document the Healing Process of a wound in a metaphorical way. Thy physiological process of healing is normally described by 3 or 4 stages, but I used 5 panels which should also represent the 5 stages of grief – denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. In this work I used the angle grinder, and various wheels of the lathe to create a wounding, to push the glass to its limits and to break through it in some parts, which shows the opening of a wound, I used polishing wheels to smoothen the rougher parts of the cuts until they finally become less visible.
